This is how I feel Birmingham should develop in the next 20 years
Here in Birmingham we have many historic assets that must be made the most of rather then starting from scratch.
We have amazing buildings with both architectural and historical value that must be saved and renovated; from elegant Edwardian swimming pools in Birmingham suburbs to the fantastic period buildings that shaped Birminghams past. The new concept for library is a good example of how contemporary architecture works well when space its well planned.
Development of Birmingham is currently unsympathetic to its surroundings and should start to include open greener spaces and city parks where people can take a break from the enclosed urban streets.
We must see an improvement in how we look after our canals and walkways and must think how we will provide transport linking different areas of the city centre.
Birmingham has a thriving underground creative community that has started to develop derelict buildings and turn them in to inspirational art galleries and creative spaces, where artists and film makers can express them selves.
These are good examples of just how Birmingham needs to regenerate the remnants of its industrial heritage.
If Birmingham starts to invest in its people, learning from heritage, improving its transport infrastructure and developing its public spaces; Birmingham will see a renaissance of its past glory.
what a nice place
