2009 Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade

Dec. 18, 2009 - New York has the Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade, Pasadena has the Tournament of Roses Parade, we have the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade. (Although I'm not really sure why they call it a boat parade, as most of the decorated crafts are yachts.)
The Newport Beach Boat Parade started Dec. 16th with last night on Dec. 20th, with a little extra added this year - a fireworks finale! The weather was perfect and as far as I know, should be through it's full run. If you have a chance, check it out!
For over 100 years the Newport Boat Parade has dazzled spectators. The boat parade in Newport Beach began as a 9 boat affair during the turn of the 20th century and has grown into hundreds of ships and homes in full décor with over 1 million people viewing the parade each year. There is a contest for the "boats" and one for homes.

I think so too - although it didn't have as many boats as it usually does. But they've thrown in a fire works display of one of our piers. That should be cool, but I'll be long gone by then. sigh.

Maybe someday you & Cindy can make it down south a bit from SF. ;)

I have a question. Some friends and I are meaning to go this year, I assumed it was free to simply go and look but the general admission said 36 dollars. Is that to be on one of the boats???

I sure miss going to this !!! I lived at the top of Goldenrod. I used to take my SeaRay out every year and watch the parade when I was older {in the 80"s}. TY for this!
