A filmlog of railing from Michigan City to Chicago via the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD), The film is about six minutes and is kind of dorky with ambient sound in the background, cheesy graphics, and an introduction.

  • Thank you for this nice vid. Liked the music as well. Soothing

  • @2002puravida NICTD only ownes the gray engine. The orange south shore freights are owned by South Shore Freight which is a seperate company from NICTD. NICTD uses their engine if something happens to the electric cars or if the power goes out. Im not sure why NICTD's engine and the south shore freight were workin together though.

  • I haven't ridden since they upgraded the cars but I might tomorrow. What do they use those NICTD diesels for?

  • I enjoyed the new video as much as all the rest , from the start of putting these on the internet,Well Done!.

  • Good video, even if some of the original set of graphic bars are a bit off. Somehow, I just don't like the newer 300 series coaches. It takes away the distinctive nature of the South Shore and makes it look like Metra.

  • I agree with ThreeTrainspotters, I don't think your video was dorky or cheesy. I have been riding the South Shore since I was a kid. My best memories from growing up were riding the "Doodle Bug" to Michigan City to spend the day at the beach with mom and dad, then home for the night. I used to ride my bike to the storage yard in South Bend and talk to the conductors and engineers. Man, I missed my calling. Should have gone to work there when I was younger. Thanks!

  • Yeah! I'm with ThreeTrainspotters. Used to ride the South Shore way back in the days before the *North* Shore was abandoned.

  • At the time the video was made, it was still called "Roosevelt Road." It counts. :)

  • actually ur wrong again the station has been rebuilt and renamed. it is now museum campus/11th street

  • Actually, that wasn't Hyde Park - that was Roosevelt Road. Other than that - interesting video.
