A cover of a great girl group tune that I first heard done by The Shop Assistants, an Indie band from the mid 80s played on John Peel's show. Then discovered the Shangri Las original which is fab. Last year it came back to me on two separate occasions.

Firstly the wonderful Neko Case did a rousing version of it when we went to see her live. Later the same week I discovered that the person who wrote it, Ellie Greenwich had passed away. I'd never heard of her but she wrote Be My Baby, Chapel of love, Leader of the Pack, Then He Kissed Me and loads more great songs. There should be statues of her somewhere or parks named after her or something. What a CV.

Anyway this is my ropey attempt at it. Hadn't realised how dour I look when I'm singing and playing. I do enjoy it honestly.

  • that was beautiful! I also became familar wit the song from the Shop Assistants cover. When I finally heard the Shangri-Las original I fell in love wit it all over again...sublime..

  • @tenebrae70 Thanks a lot. I have written a song from the bloke's point of view but haven't got round to finishing it yet. Always felt a bit sorry for him. Cheers, Mike

  • tops, mate. you make it look easy...which isn't easy.

  • @craigsimz Thank you very much, it gets easier as time goes on, but thats only because I neglect everything else to play the uke!

  • I hate to think what my countenance would be like when I play. I still haven't gotten quite the hang of playing and singing--it's a bit like lecturing in class and wondering at the same time if that kid in the back is actually taking notes on his laptop or on Facebook. Not exactly a brilliant moment.

  • @josephhoh Thanks for the comment - sorry to take so long to reply. Great image you paint there of your lectures. Worthy of writing a song about it.
