On Tuesday, 9 February 2010, United Nations Agencies, international and national non-governmental organizations and representatives from the provincial as well as federal governments presented the Pakistan Humanitarian Response Plan (PHRP) 2010 at a launch event in Islamabad; to find out how the humanitarian community is planning to respond to the needs of vulnerable populations in the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) in 2010.
Mr. Manuel Bessler (Head of OCHA) was the main anchorperson of the meeting.
The presenting panel consisted of Her Excellency,Hina Rabbani Khar, Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Mr. Shakeel Qadir, Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) representing the NWFP Government, Mr. Harris Khalique, Chief Executive of the national NGO Strengthening Participatory Organisation (SPO) and Mr. Martin Mogwanja, the Humanitarian Coordinator for Pakistan.
The launch event was also an opportunity for Member States to make pledges, and both Russia and Japan took the chance to announce their planned contributions.Representatives of Switzerland, the United States and The Netherlands also used the opportunity to thank the humanitarian community for their efforts and support to the vulnerable population and FATA.
