The steepest cog-wheel railway in the world (grade up to 48 %) climbs up Pilatus Mountain near Lucerne in Central Switzerland. I went up there and took my ham radio station and a log-periodic antenna for 2 m / 70 cm with me to give distant FM repeaters a try. During my three weeks at Lake Lucerne, this was the only day with perfect weather to go up Pilatus, so the railway was very crowded. But the crush was handled perfectly - it was running like the proverbial Swiss watch.
