I was hunting a spot in the water along a river bank picking up a fair amount of Civil War items. Then out of the mud I uncovered a civil war poncho! I was able to detect it because of the grommets along its edges. It was preserved because it was buried in a clay and silt layer of sediment. It is a first for me!

  • how do u know is a civil war poncho!?

  • @MrAidanDoyle Reference books and experience mostly....

  • Beau...any idea on how to go about preserving it now that it is out of the river? Cool stuff man.

  • Hey Bill...so far I've just let it dry on the table and it seems to be doing very well. The rubber is keeping it supple I guess.
