My husband has been going on and on about a table he saw at Natural Wonders approximately a decade ago that was holographic where it had an apple on it that looked so real, he freaked-out when he attempted to pick it up. Does anyone out there know anything about this? I would love to buy the table for him.

Nah, it's a piece of paper with a square on it. He uses a program called ARToolkit, where it involves using a webcam/camera. The program scopes out anything that has a square shape on it, and produces the image you see right here via camera. It's a video feed basically.
Gosh, THIS IS NOT FAKE.
Yes, the video is blurrier than the character, and that's exactly a sign of it being real! GOOGLE SEARCH IT AND YOU WILL FIND 10000 RESULTS FOR IT. Stop being a hater.

From my understanding AR stands for Augmented Reality. So what was happening here is the computer takes a live video feed and recognizing the symbol printed on that card you can overlay a 3d object onto the video. I've seen this technique used on the history channel and it is also used in games such as PS3's eye of judgement.
