I've read many reviews that led me to believe that this game has "strategic" and "in depth" combat (Gamespot and IGN ). Imagine my surprise when I paid $50 for the game and found out it was just random button mashing at best. You don't need to use items in battle, you don't need to rely on light and dark, you don't need to rely on positioning... just mash the attack button and you'll never even come close to losing.

  • I think its insulting to say that outside of America, random button mashing is considered to be the pinnacle of strategic game design.

I am prejudice against poor quality combat regardless of where its from. Tales of Vesperia and Lost Odyssey are two games made in the same country as Eternal Sonata, all on the 360, that offer more than wanton button mashing.
