This video is to pass the time as I upgrade my computer for making new vids. This game ending has haunted me my whole life. I wonder if anyone else has noticed how bad it is... Maybe it's not the worst ever, but it's the worst to me....

  • Aio was a newly colonized 'planet'. . this "planet" wasnt a planet at all, but an enormous, cosmic sized plant laying dormant. mankind accidentally awakened the plant, which grew and blossomed.theres your explanation.

    i loved this game. :P

rumors suggest that ubisoft had much greater plans for the story, to even be included in other games, but since intel bought up most copies of the game and made it a packaged title with new computers, it didnt get its chance for popularity as a regular title.

  • @zarphus This backstory, if true, doesn't matter. THEY DIDN'T SAY IT IN THE GAME. And I have heard different explanations. And worse, IT'S STILL STUPID. I don't see why I should give a half finished game more credit than it deserves.

  • @zarphus All this shows me is that you were as confused as I was when you saw it and you had to check if there was any reason this stupid ending existed.

  • Maybe the other drivers let you take the ship because they were too slow and then the PoD caught them :) Just a thought.

And I actually do think I see the symbolism in why the planet becomes a flower. Perhaps it's meant to represent what will happen to Earth once mankind is wiped out, either by its own doing or a planetary disaster. That is, Earth will be beautiful again.

It's still pretty lame though. The ending would have been better if you simply escaped and it stopped after that.

  • @NailStrafer My and my bro thought of a million symbols for this game... then we realized they spent about 6 seconds thinking up an ending for this game... so we wasted our time....

  • @TheFFFanatic I think it's far from being the worst game ending ever though, and aside from the random flower thing it's fine. It's still a satisfying conclusion and I'm glad I got to see it.

Alone in the Dark 2008 is much worse than this, mostly because in both endings the game just kind of stops and you never get a true plot resolution.

  • @NailStrafer It's the worst to me...

  • Best game ever!

Anyone who tells any different is wrong!

  • First Person Shooter, jokes maybe adventure with puzzles throughout the game

  • Puzzle

  • @osakanone BTW, there was a backstory on the official POD page way back when... What POD needed to grow was oxygen. It lay dormant until Io was terraformed by humans and became rich in oxygen.

  • I figure the flower thing is like part of POD's life-cycle. Its peeled back the surface of the planet to release its spores. I figure it probably needed some elements the planet simply didn't have so it went dormant.

But yeah, if you read up, it was meant to have RPG elements. Half of the game is missing because the budget was fucked. The racing was supposed to be like a side-game but Ubisoft decided that was too complicated for players and nerfed it.

  • It was originally meant to have RPG elements, similar to Monkey Island.

  • Bwahahahah! Your brother sounds awesome. I'd have done the same thing.

I like this game and I think the ending's cool. The graphics suck because you're playing the low-res version, not the 3DFX version. Also, the "meaning" of the ending is simple; POD is a lifeform that spreads itself through space by turning planets into these giant blooming flowers. I thought it was a cool idea.
