Joule Thief Pulse motor + 25 Leds

A pulse motor and 25 leds powered by a joule thief using 1.5volt battery.The joule thief circuit charges a capasitor that discharges via a reed switch through a coil which pulses the rotor along with lighting 25 led's.

It appears that there are two things in this video. One is a simple DC-DC converter that boosts the voltage up enough to run the LEDs and the other is the electric motor that appears to have no function.

Why are they shown together?

For those who don't know: A DC to DC converter or "voltage booster" is an electronic circuit that steps up voltage at the cost of a reduced current. Good ones are about 90% efficient ie: they lose about 10% of the power in the process.

Hi Knowledgemonger.There is two things going on in this video,a circuit is running a pulse motor and also lighting 25 led's all from a used 1.5v battery.What i find remarkable about the joule thief circuit is that it can light 1 led let alone 25 and on top off that,pulse a coil to spin a rotor for hours,maybe even days and only gives up when the battery voltage reaches 0,7v long after the battery would have been thrown away as dead.Hope this explains whats happening a bit better.
