  • Do you think that educational videos or disney channel is bad for babies?

  • i dont think they are bad...as long as they are limited...at one time i was very busy and had to put vids on to keep her occupied but i have since made it a point to limit her videos to 1 or 2 30 min a day at most...and if i can avoid them all together i will...

  • im not a huge fan of disney in general..mostly because the channel plays commericals around kids programs..and the commericals are just too adult-like but are advertising to young ones...

there was actually a news piece recently about the baby einstein vids and their effects on infants...

  • according to my MIL (a psycologist) infants under 1 year should not watch vids/tv at all b/c it tends to lower attention span..and i do agree..if you watch older children watching tv they are usually consumed by it and you have to fight to get their attention..imagine what that does to an infant..i used B. eisteins after 6mon but wont do it again..

  • or at least not that early...i will wait till after 12mon and follow my childs cues as to whether or not they are ready to pay attention to the educational value of a video...

  • Hi , I love the job you are doing. I have a 19 months old and he just says 4 english words and 4 spanish words. I would love to know how you do it.. I spend most of my time working with my baby but he doesn't concentrate like your baby.

but again all children are different and will show you what they know when they are ready...just keep presenting them with things specific to their world and before you know it youll have einstein on your hands ;)

ps: if someone cannot afford to purchase learning aids...check your local thrift shops or your local freecycle (freecycle dot org)

  • I apreciate your advice. I received my "your baby can read" videos today. You don't know how much apreciate what you told me. It's like a little secret because not many people knows about this. I am thinking to make a similar video with my camcorder with spanish words.. I have some ideas.. I am always thinking how to help my child. I am gonna have just one child and I want to do my best. Hugs

  • Hi petra, thank you very much for your advice. I am lucky that I can afford these toys. I am going to buy the toys that you told me and someone told me that the dvd's YOUR BABY CAN READ are wonderful. You should try those too. My baby said his first word when he was 1 year old. I believe that babies learn at different rates and times but you also have to push them. Many moms just stay at home but they don't do anything with them. That's why I really apreciate your advice.

  • con't:

language was a bit different...there were no tricks to it except when she would try to say big words and had a hard time...i would ask her to look up at me and i would say the word once or 2x slowly and cleary...

for the most part she took on language herself...she said her first word at 5months and has turned into quite a chatty box....

  • con't:

for numbers i would counnt to threee when lifting her in the air...like a game...soon she would count to threee when it was time to play the game...later i showed her what the counting meant by counting simple things with her...

alphabets, their sounds, and upper and lower case...the best toy was the leap frog fridge phonics...
