Second try on building a ambilight clone.

This time I used two TLC5940 PWM units in combination with one arduino duemilanove and 10 LED RGB strips cut to a length of 25cm. The software to analyze the screen and send the data to the micro controller is boblight.

If you are interested in a fun and easy project, checkout my instructable on building your own one. There you can find many photos, too.

  • How much resources (CPU&RAM) does the code use on average on the host PC?

  • @guled22 I don't know exactly and can't test it out at the moment. It is not much. It doesn't have any issues on gaming experience. You can also set how often the screen is analyzed. So don't bother about that.

  • This can be used to play games on PC too?

  • @BankaiNoJutsu It can be used for whatever you want. It will always analyze your screen. Games, Desktop, Word, Movies or Screensaver, doesn't matter.

  • @ledtvlight Thanks :)

  • @nitroray Don't bother about it. It's not much. Sorry, can't test it out at the moment, but I guess with my really old Core2Duo it doesn't take more than 1% I guess.

  • @ledtvlight Ah pretty cool! same question as @guled22 though, how much resources does it take?

  • @nitroray No, it works with BobLight. Look at the tutorial in the description for more details. The Video (Finding Nemo) is from Youtube. The lights change their color according to what is shown on the screen. Doesn't matter if game, Desktop, movie or anything else.

  • Using VLC with the plugin?

  • Great Job! Congrats!
