Because it had to be done.

An abridged arrangement of "Still Alive" (theme from "Portal") by Jonathan Coulton, on the 61-bell carillon at the top of the 175-ft Storke Tower on the UCSB campus.
Arranged and performed by Greg Courville, with instructor Margo Halsted at the pedals.

I am compelled to point out that, under the control of a competent musician, the carillon is capable of making music that is orders of magnitude more interesting than what you're hearing here. For those who may be offended by the abuse of such a magnificent instrument, please keep in mind that I had only ever laid hands on these batons a few times prior.

  • What does UCSB stand for ? Who cast these very nice sounding bells ?

  • ->clochebell:

    According to the information I can find, they were made in Holland by Petit & Fritsen.

  • btnheazy03: Fair enough. I know this could have been done orders of magnitude better, but what it comes down to is that I (effectively a non-musician) had to come up with something I could go and bang out on an instrument I'd only seen or touched a handful of times. I'd say it was worth it for the novelty alone, although admittedly I still fantasize about what it could have sounded like done *right*...

  • noo Its GLaDOS funereal D:

  • easlern: The instrument itself was fine. The individual operating it, well, I'm not so sure. ;-)

  • I Rather Have My Combustible Lemons!! Give Them Back'

  • This was a triumph.

  • NICE...

  • The arrangement is so wonderfully different. So plain and simple, yet somehow so inexplicably odd and haunting.

    Like Portal itself.

  • @Axxinger You've got to be kidding me! GLaDOS bakes your favorite cake and you transported it to your sister with your Portal gun!

  • @clochebell University of California Santa Barbara sickest school ever
