the latest research shows what docs who work w/these parents already knew: that mental health problems are more than twice as prevalent among the parents of autistic kids. some of them are first class nutters. i rarely see this level of psychopathology among the parents of any other group.

most parents want to believe what they want to believe. this is especially true of parents of autistic kids (this includes the ones who are actually autistic as well as those who've been misdiagnosed by those who aren't properly trained to diagnose ANYTHING). they dearly want to believe that their kids defects don't have anything do do w/their genetic makeup. the vaccine fairy tale thus provided them w/the perfect solution. it also gave them something else to complain about.
