@octobox The scarf the woman holds is merely to cover herself with. In the origins of the dance the woman would have used the long skirt which was the fashion of the day back then, holding the hem in her hand as she danced. Now that fashions have changed and women do not wear that type of skirt anymore the scarf is used in the same way. The man is looking for an opportunity to catch her unguarded i.e. without the scarf protecting her so that he can 'vacinate' her. That is the game of rumba

@dancingdoctor " Why is it that any video that focuses on africans or blacks in general seems to attract all these idiotic racists, don't you guys have anything better to do..? "
I have a possible answer. They are like those very outspoken anti-gay activists who secretly are gay themselves!!
So many of these folk that you refer to are secretly infatuated...more like obsessed with black culture but they don't have a support system that allows for a positive expression of this deep infatuation.

@lafemmenaturalle -- the scarf represents her virginity or sexuality (her virtue) and he tries to "seduce" it or "take it" and she defends it (plays coy). Toward the end of the dance (sometimes) the woman will give it to the man and other times he will snatch it -- I prefer it when the man goes nuts and acts out his frustration and never gets it and she's leaves him dreaming. It's symbolic of courtship. Truly a playful and beautiful metaphoric dance.

@dancingdoctor2005 The music and dance is pure Cuban and in the island we all participate whites and black.
Why is it that any video that focuses on africans or blacks in general seems to attract all these idiotic racists, don't you guys have anything better to do with your time than spread hatred?
