You would need a texting plan to use messaging. One AIM message = 1 text. While the data plan is useless. When connecting to AIM you don't need data plan. Any phone connects to AIM for free. Even the old phones. But the only thing you might need the data plan for is to download this App. However you have Wi-Fi with these phones. Just go on Wi-Fi and download the App.
