@DecemberRegn Also lastly, the illegal cheetah pet trade is a huge threat to this already threatened species. Since they are so difficult to breed in captivity the cubs are usually taken from the wild, where the mother is usually killed and most cubs don't survive the travel. In the end, I think it's better to try and work with preserving these animals in reservations and at help out as a volunteer or at rescues. ^^

@DecemberRegn This one here might be an exception. I'm sure there's more "exceptions", but all in all, we shouldn't try to make wild animals like these become common pets, especially not if you just think it's cool (not saying most people are thinking this). I know too many people owning dogs, cats and birds and not knowing how to properly care for them. The same goes to many people owning big exotic pets too. I just hope people do their research and actually know what it takes.

@DecemberRegn ..saying that it's dangerous to live a wild and free life (mostly because of humans here) it's okay to have them as pets. Then why not take in all animals in the wild since it's dangerous? Animals in the wild are killed all the time and many live harsh lives. But we can't take all of them in and pet them on our sofas, now can we? Try to fight the poachers (etc.) and make good reservations for them or similar, don't take them in as pets.

@rebtris Well, my first comment come off as very PETA-ish and maybe I should explain myself more thoroughly, I agree. But your comment here isn't really a valid one although I can see your point. If it's a abondoned cub I can't see a problem really if you know how to properly care for it. The best would be to release it into the wild again if you could, but if not, as long as it lives a healthy and stimulated life I can't see that of a big problem with it, no. But...

wouldn't you need to take them for long ass walks???

you all need to calm down here if you knew anything besides being a hippie, you would know that it is fairly common for mothers to abandon baby cheetahs and conservation centers hold adoptions seminars where they select people who are suitable to take care of cheetahs ie. money large property. just because it is a in a foreign country doesnt mean its a slave cheetah

@rebtris Yes, you should not be able to get a pit bull or breed pit bulls unless you have a license. But think, if everyone had a big cat, they would want to go off exploring because of there natural instinct to hunt, correct? Well then that would mean getting out of there yards,& then possibly breeding with other big cats that have gotten out. Then we would have the same problem with big cats as we do pit bulls, they would get used to no human contact and then go insane possibly killing!

@LoveToJump24 You're right that it's not just the owner who is risking danger when someone keeps a dangerous animal, THAT is why I say that pit bulls should be subject to the same strict containment laws that big cats are. When a city tries to ban pit bulls or make keeping them much harder you hear a chorus of complaints about it even though pit bulls are responsible for the most fatal attacks year after year! If you can keep a pit bull, you should be able to keep a big cat.
as long as he cares for the animal, it is all good.

I think cheetahs are one of the most gorgeous and intriguing of all wild cats. Love watching them on "Big Cat Diary," many times they come right up to the researchers and camera crew...they really do seem fairly domesticated even in the wild. I wish I could have one!
