SBSA ex-AFM SWIFTBOAT P24 TRANSFER TO SAN DIEGO MUSEUM PROJECT

A team of Maritime Museum staff and officers of the Swift Boat Sailors Association arrived in Malta this past weekend to inspect P24, a recently deactivated patrol boat of the Defense Forces of Malta which one time also served as a unit in the US Navy. The team has also been working with the Republic of Malta on plans and arrangements for the vessel's donation to the Maritime Museum of San Diego and her eventual transportation back to the United States. Though many details yet remain unresolved, progress toward P24's repatriation has been substantial. According to Dr Raymond Ashley, President and CEO of the Maritime Museum, "We are very excited about moving this project forward. P24 not only represents a piece of US Naval History, in her service to Malta she is also now part of a Maritime story which goes back thousands of years. The donation of the Swift Boat is an opportunity to share our cultures and to honor the sailors from both nations who served and in some cases lost their lives in the performance of their duties in these boats."
