I love 3:23.. that major arpeggio lick is so beautiful, and they way, it's all finger-picked makes it so smooth, adding to 4rainbowed's comment about how Knopfler is so modest with his guitar talent. Gorgeous.

I heard this part on the radio 10 years ago and never knew where it came from until I finally tracked it down here. I saved this clip long ago, but still play it almost every time I'm online. Absolute fucking masterpiece. I just have immense respect for the man's artistry and humility. I think I've listened to ALL of the versions of this solo in Youtube, and still feel this is the BEST one. The man is an international treasure...

Mark gives the impression that playing this song is like breathing. Lots of guitarists will make a big deal of acting like they are performing an incredible feat, when they do little. Knopfler acts like the incredible is just nothing!!
