Wow! I'm not even a Restorationist; I'm more a fan of older systems. I have our family's old Zenith B&W T.V. from my Dad (1954) in the attic. Still works great. It's a bummer that somebody just let these set around for so long without care, but glad you saved them. My wife'd probably kill me if I 'acquired' too many more sets, but there's a space for a reel-to-reel here, though. Are you still working with these? (I remember when my boy was this age. Seems like yesterday, but he's 10 now.)

When tube plates glow cherry red it is usually caused by shorted out or extremely leaky capacitors. Any time you see those old striped black capacitors they need to GO! They weren't any good to begin with.
