  • I read this engine had a cracked piston when it was installed and that it wasn't discovered until it was too late and smoke filled the hall and when the engine was torn down they had to replace both the piston and the liner.

  • Not quite :-)

When she arrived and was first installed there was obvious blow-by on number three. She remained in store for several years until installed in Hall 7 earlier this year. because of the blow-by she was not run much and at the first opportunity number 3 head was lifted and the piston pulled.

There was liner damage and a crack in the piston skirt. We have since been told by an ex-engineer that she had a problem in the 90's.

Piston and liner have now been replaced and she runs well.

  • Why is she outside? And the engine has a very nice sound.

  • She will be going into a new Allen Heritage Building next year, the space she was in was temporary and is now used for the Clayton & Shuttleworth and Tangye AA displays.

She will be running at the End of Season Crankup this year.

  • So if the whole thing is on skids, did they have to take part of the wall down to get it in there?

  • Nope. On rollers through the door (had to take the air cleaners off to clear.

Jacked up above the level of the step on to railway sleepers, steel plate across from sleepers onto step. Engine sat on 4 skates and then jacked sideays into position. 4 hours start to finish.

She is now outside again, took the same time to drop her off the step and pull out through the door.

Weight 16 tons plus 4 for the rad.

  • This engine has quite a good sound. Check out my lego engine.

  • Considering its size, that's unusually quiet. Obviously being closer, the bloke wearing earmuffs might disagree, but very smooth

  • I look after and run 3 T47 Allens 770hp 2 strokers. Spares are now really hard to find. If anyone hears of any spares drop me a line!

  • 265hp for that size of engine i'm guessing it puts out alot of torque with that displacement, how much torque does it put out

  • I really like the sound of this thing, runs really smooth.
