In 1999, during the search for an Israeli submarine, the DAKAR, Nauticos Corporation discovered the cargo of a large wrecked merchant ship. Located in international waters south of Turkey and west of Cyprus, the ship's cargo sits at a depth of a little over 3000 meters and was documented during a brief visit to the site. Mark Lawall studied the records of the cargo and identified several amphora types within it, which provided a date of near the middle of the first century B.C. The cargo mostly consists of intact amphorae (see the video) among which are the following types: Pamphylian, Rhodian, Koan, Lamboglia 2 and others. This site and its amphorae hold great potential for further study and discoveries, which future funding would make possible. EMMAF plans to provide more detailed information from Mark Lawall, while at the same time promoting the site for its inherent potential.
