Black Quiled stinging Caterpillar. Unknown species. Beautiful quills but don't be fooled this thing packs a mean poisinous punch. there are many species of stinging Quiled Caterpillars and stinging hair slugs or Caterpillars! I wanted to upload the high def version so you can se the deadly beauty of these missunderstood creatures. if you have seen the previous this allows for better examination. Please feel free to comment in any way you would like. Help in identification would be appreciated.

  • I love the wooly bears. So cute. Just be glad you don't live in Brazil. They have a quilled caterpillar that has venom, causing heavy bleeding if you you are exposed to pricks of a cluster of the caterpillars. It's a pretty recent discovery after some orchard workers were stung. They are just starting to collect venom now to make antivenom.

  • dat asp

  • what kind of caterpillar is this cause i saw one of these in the road i live in southeastern ky and i saw it 10-22-11

  • Is there a marching band in the background??? Caterpillar is cool, but the stinging part doesn't sound so neat. We don't have stinging caterpillars in MN that I know of.

  • That's a huge wooly bear caterpillar, turns into a giant leopard moth. It's irritating, but not real dangerous. The moth it turns into is very striking.

We used to catch and race tussock moth caterpillars in San Antonio, and never had any ill effects from the hairs, but I've heard it can be like fiberglass.

  • You better watch out , that joker will sting the shit out of you.
