  • I finally was able to listen to all of the concerto again. I had the original mono LP, which RCA Victor released in 1957. They later issued the stereo version. It remains one of the best recordings of this powerful work and I think it is one of Rubenstein's greatest performances. I saw Rubenstein, too, in one of his final recitals, when he played at San Francisco's Masonic Auditorium in the mid 1970s. Despite his failing eyesight, he still played with great power and precision.

  • After WW11 we listened as children to Kempff and Gieseking and Soloman and Schnabel

still un parrelled with orchestral brilliance...oh please listen to the recherche temps temps perdue. lots of love may music be the food of love. Always.

It sure sounds like it to me. And I like it way better than Glen Gould's version. Rubenstein is such a monstrous talent.

  • This was the last piece of music my Dad listened to. I was 14 and he was found dead in the morning. The most beutiful piece of music I have ever heard, but I can still only listen to it when I'm in a certain mood. I remember the day like it was yesterday. That was in 1967.

  • l'une des plus belles oeuvres du maître !!!

  • his jacket is too cool

  • is this the recording they used in Immortal Beloved?

  • @MrTimber101 considering that rubinstein said that he learned this concerto late in his life, specifically to record it - it is one of the great regrets that he never gave his interpretation of the last 3 sonatas of beethoven . his gigantic musicality, "ear" for gorgeous singing tone and instinctive intelligence for structure would have easily marked his interpretation among the historic standards of those works..imo. with his sound, style he is like the "KIRSTEN FLAGTAD" of piano

  • @ruexcited2 my first hearing too as a child - and remains my favorite. Rubinstein conception is just Grand, Majestic, full-blooded and Glorously played. even after growing up to be a musician and learning this myself - i have not heard anyone play it with such completely satisfying magnificence. i LOVE the way his tone comes and the way he produces the runs.
