You simply do not understand history. You cannot take people out of context of the times they live in. We eat animals at the moment- in 400 years or so, that may be considered barbaric, uncivilized. You cannot accuse someone of racism in the 1800s, because everyone at the time was racist.

Firstly, medieval Kings and Queens were absoloute monarchs instead of constitutional monarchs. Secondly, the world was less civilzed and more barbaric in the middle ages. Thirdly, wars were only with the close neighbours of the warring nation because there was no globalization. Fourthly, colonies rarely existed in the medieval times, and none existed in the early period.
