beautiful. I don't want to seem contentious, but while Judy and Bette do fine jobs, a little unknown voice named Nanci Griffith puts more into this song that any. sorry guys.

I agree. I love Judy Collins; often she interprets songs that make you see them in a new way (Yeats Song of Wandering Aengus, as a prime example). The lyrics to this song can sound sappy without the passion of a Midler or the pathos of a Griffin.

Have you heard "the Byrds" performance of this. They are right at the top of the list. Their arrangement is very good

This is from a PBS special. I believe it was from Lincoln Center in New York. I would guess it was late 80's/early 90's
