This film would be quite amusing if it wasn't for the fact that every one of the geeky 'experts' in this film pronounces the word 'Balrog' wrong. Dumb yanks.

"like two vast wings" is a similie, not a metaphor. If Tolkien had intended it to have wings, he would have written, "he reached out with his shadowy wing" or the like. Lol.

i think balrogs should have wings and becuase of its eminse size it couldnt fly verywell

sort of like a beached whale can flop around becuase it crushes its own lungs due to the size but good question!

I agree with davidhrom.Also,I never accepted any visual representation of a balrog.The one from the LOTR movie,for example,was corny and childish

I think that balrogs as Maiar could change his appearance and so they can have wings, but do not have to.
