  • Well, of all the criticism on here, none of which I consider warranted by the way, yours is the only one who "got it right". Everyone keeps saying "too heavy, too heavy"...they're crazy! Her voice isn't HEAVY, it's big (as you say) and dark. Chiaro. Stunning.

That said, I disagree 100% that she is not suited for this aria/role. Listen to those high notes! You don't even notice how high they are, because they are so free, dark, and powerful.

Bravo Moser, how I love you! =D

  • Edda Moser was underrated but she was really like a second Joan Sutherland ONLY BETTER! She could sing coloratura roles and dramatic roles that were heavier...she had a dramatic take on even ligher roles....she was an amazing talent and I like everything she sang!

  • And the conductor is James Levine, not Bonynge, by the way.

  • Strange, no one here seems to realise that this is from a production where she sang all three parts (four actually, as Stella has a few words in las act). This Olympia makes sense because it is but one fourth of the same woman - as it should, Offenbach definitely wrote the four female characters to be sung by only one singer.

Edda Moser was one among the rare sopranos who could and actually did sing all four parts. Natalie Dessay tried but had to give up.

  • Never give THIS doll to a child!!!

  • Чудно!

  • @Noiz Better than Dessay =D

  • @Noiz Oh I'm not joking! I'm actually offended you mentioned Dessay here! But I'm a forgiving guy...

  • @Noiz Sorry, but at a minimum, I can't see how you can mention Dessay here, given the vast difference in vocal fach between the two sopranos. That's all I'm going to say =D

  • @Noiz Argh!

  • her voice is to heavy for olympia.

  • Gosh!. I'm sure that I am gonna get attacked by hardcore fans of hers but I have to say that her last high E is horrible! it gets completely drawn by the chorus... I think she was an amazing dramatic-coloratura but she should have not sung some things, I am not really sure if she was comfortable in her high notes. To me it seems that she had to strain her voice to hit them. Don't get me wrong, I still love her (How not to love a true dramatic-coloratura?)
