  • His basics are much better and solid than Luca Valdesi...

  • You are a black Belt in Shotokan and you don't know this Kata ??

I suggest you buy Master Nakayama's "Best Karate" book 11.

It contains Gojushiho Dai and Gojushiho Sho

  • that is technically terrible kata! so many corners cut to achieve the 'effect of explosiveness'. hands all over the place, extra movements after finishing most slow movements, lack of understanding of movements, so techniques are illogically separated just to achieve speed.

it's amazing that joel did not get penalized for all these things. maybe all the judges are interested in nowadays is flashy movement?! the scary thing is that more and more youngsters are going aspire to examples like this

  • the three palm attacks aint chudan

  • excellent technique and excellent explosion.. exellent kata

  • exelent kata, really good, excellent technique and excellent explosion

  • I think Joel Carpin has very excellent kihon. But just like what @sedativechunk mentioned below, the pauses are a little too long. Maybe it was done to emphasize kihon. I prefer that katas are performed with excellent rhythm, continuous flow and excellent technique. Personally, too long of a pause breaks the continuity of techniques. But again, this is just my personal opinion.

  • Flawless and strong performance. shotakan poses are strong and make it look good 2 ( which is a big advantage in kata). arigato.

  • Actually I think the pauses are a little too long in this performance. Kata is supposed to represent you fighting a real person. If you are fighting against imaginary people, why would you take such long pauses? They should be one second, not 3-4 seconds.

  • belissima execução de gojushiho dai parabens oss
