FIM Gala 2011 - Estoril

Estoril - Portugal - The stars of World motorcycling were out in force as they were attending the FIM Gala Ceremony that celebrated the many FIM World Champions

Motorcycling's most famous female TV presenter Suzi Perry acted as the master of ceremonies as the current crop of FIM World Champions take to the stage to collect their respective awards. This unique event once again showcased the highest level of motorcycle sport and the heroes who put their bodies on the line each season in order to win their chosen title and to entertain the millions of fans around the World who follow their exploits each week.

The diverse nature of the riders present was perfectly illustrated as ten-year old Jorge Prado Garcia - FIM 65cc Junior Motocross World Champion from Spain, French FIM Women's Enduro World Cup Winner Ludivine Puy and FIM Superbike World Champion Carlos Checa all shared the same stage.

The female sector of the sport was once again well represented by some high profile Women riders including ten times FIM Women's Trial World Champion - Laia Sanz, thus further reinforcing their growing status in the various disciplines.

Inside the Black and Silver room of the Estoril Casino, Laia Sanz and Carlos Checa achieved a Spanish night winning the two special awards - FIM Woman of the Year / FIM Personality of the Year, while The winner of the FIM Rookie of the Year was Maciej Janowski (FIM Speedway Under 21 World Champion).

The evening was the opportunity for the FIM family to remember the great Italian rider Marco Simoncelli who died earlier this year during the Malaysian Grand Prix.
