It's quite fascinating to see how Disney re-uses material from their lesser-known early work in their later major movies. The similarity to Ursula getting huge and stirring up the ocean with the trident in The Little Mermaid is unmistakable.

This cartoon was made prior to the "marriage" between Hollywood and the Catholic Church and the resulting Decency Codes, which is why Disney was free to draw the mermaids both mythically and genetically correct.
