Master Shi Guo Song Shaolin Praying Mantis Demonstration

Master Shi Guo Song is a 34th generation Shaolin monk who is currently teaching kung fu and chi kung at Markham Chinese Cultural Centre in Market Village in Markham Ontario, Canada

Master Shi Guosong demonstrates the imitative boxing of the praying mantis through movements that are whirling and elastic. In Shaolin boxing, one's body is pliant and well balanced. So much so that each movement contains either an attack, defence or both. Constantly changing, the forms are highly unpredictable.

Master Shi Guo Song began learning martial arts at the age of three and was accepted into the Shaolin Monastery at the age of thirteen. Under his master he studied Buddhism and Shaolin Gong Fu. He became a fully ordained monk at the age of 21. In 1995 he founded the Shaolin Temple Chan Yuan Martial Arts School in association with the Shaolin Monastery. In 1998 he won the gold award in the World Shaolin Boxing Championship. GuoSong is a Shaolin monk and teacher of Gong Fu. He has trained in the martial arts for over 20 years and has mastered many different martial arts styles, including Shaolin Boxing, a non-contact competitive martial art. He has been performing and teaching in the U.S. since 2004.

  • I do not know if the guy is a monk or not!I do not give a damn! That is his business, not mine. I know for sure that most of the people that are in the Shaolin temple are fake monks, also because we should understand what is a Buddhist monk. The only thing I know for sure is that:THIS IS NOT REAL PRAYING MANTIS!!!Praying Mantis is a style coming from Shandong province, so please check youtube and see:Zhong Lian Bao, hen Le Ping, Qu Zi Junn, Jiang Zhou Cun among others, to seee THE REAL STYLE!

  • @jadeshield Of course, you're right. But this guy in the video is really one of the few real monks from today.

Check out this (the same guy like in this video): /watch?v=oNZ8RYLC2Nc&feature=channel_video_title

  • My Dear Martial Jedi, I do not care if you call me troll. The only thing I know is that Some shaolin fake monks(They are married, they eat meat, drink alchool, and buy expensive cars, but they shave theyr heads and dress like monks) are reinventing Kung Fu styles. So know we have Shaolin Taiji, Shaolin Baji, Shaolin Xing Yi and of course this terrible Shaolin Tanglang.I am sorry but I am sick and tired of lies about Kung Fu. So hopefully these monks will find good Masters to study with!See you.

  • @jadeshield Do you still think this guy in the video is a fake monk? lol

  • @yulichenlu shaolin nowa days is just a person that have learned the shaolin arts. Shaolin master, must have learned traditional kung fu, some are from families, others from teachers, and are examined by examiners to get a belt. The highest color of belt for some shaolin kung fu (according to my teacher) golden dragon belt. He tried the exam, and failed twice but he is there....

  • @jadeshield Then again who told you that all shaolin have to be monks?, there are temples now in china where there used to be real shaolin, but now they are decendent. They arent as faithful as their ancestor to their religion, but some do still possess the spirit for their ancestor's martial art, and you can go there for vaccations to learn

I DID SO :D it was fun and tiring, 5 am wake up start exercise before breakfast etc

  • @jadeshield how do u know if it isnt a modified version, varified, or if the "monk traveled to a city to earn a living by teaching"? After all i can find a teacher of praying mantis in the city.

  • @jadeshield shut up troll.

  • Dear Martial Jedi, I do not want to offend anybody, but THIS IS NOT PRAYING MANTIS!It's just some moves done with tanglang hand. I am sorry, but I did not invent the style. So if you really want to see the real Tang lang, give a look on youtube to Zhong Lian Bao, Chen Le Ping, Qu Zi Jun, Jiang Zhou Cun. They do not dress like monks, but they do Tanglang.Thank you.Hopefully the fake monks will go to study, instead of reinventing the real Kung Fu!

  • Best Mantis demonstration I've seen so far on YT.
