I discuss the changes in Vistas licencing scheme that may have a serious effect on the hobbyist. I also talk about Ubuntu, and explain how to get free professionally minted disks for the asking.

  • Firefox comes with ubuntu but its not a very good browser. Its comparable to explorer. I think i have installed 20 extension. I stopped using firefox after i knew how unsafe ut was and changed to opera. And i have more features in opera on default than in any oher browser i know of and runs on many platforms.

  • I am warming up to Opera. It seems faster.

  • Good! It was nice to see that video. You look right into the camera, no slips of the tongue... very good.

Aaaand... I like Gnome better... ;-)

  • LOL, thanks.

  • Excellent video. I haven't been able to make the jump to a full blooded *nix user yet, but knowing there are people out there like yourself makes it easier to experiment more and more than I do now.

  • Glad to hear it! Going cold turkey is extremely difficult, especially if you are a gamer. The strategy I use is to do as little as possible on Windows. It minimizes my risk catching a virus or spyware. With normal surfing, Unix works as well as Windows.

  • Hey "Makotze" give Steve Ballmer a nice wet kiss. TechAnvil: Didn't know about the 2 times only install of Vista. Just ONE more reason I'm not going to install "THIS" operating system. Nice presentation for those considering the switch. M$'s licensing schemes have become a joke. They can have their P.O.S operating system.

  • try ubuntu ultimate edition its is awesome prepackaged clean sleek has beryl and the best linux games i could go on but it is a step foward for linux desktop

  • its ironic may linux sw r made in windows, also the user manuals r made in office 2003 or 2007. its ironic, right?.

  • @TechAnvil i love opera it is amazing

  • Great video, if I may suggest, I would suggest dual booting to make the transition easier. For anyone who isn't aware, it means that you choose between Ubuntu (or whichever distribution) and microsoft at the start up right after BIOS. That way if you need to use microsoft for any reason (games or whatever) then you just restart into microsoft. Eventually you'll see that you hardly ever (if at all) go into it.

  • Ubuntu saved my old family computer ^_^ Now I have my own computer

  • Windows XP Activation ByPass (might work on Vista)

On YouTube Search, Search for starkist1480 and click on the first video.

  • Way to go Brian!

I tried Ubuntu - it's cool, but I ended up going with PCLinuxOS - way easier transition for Windows people.

Easiest way to make the change = 2 Hard Drives.

Leave the cover off the 'puter & switch the cable back & forth as needed. I did that & eventually I stopped using the XP hard drive completely!

  • good job

  • i presume u mean unix ,why the hell sco are worse the microsoft, any how linux dont use unix legal battles have proven that, anyhow just dnt use the ms os . open source is the future use use use , never say UNIX its f"*&ing evil, ubuntu is sweet but mandriva all the way , mandriva is a much simpler interface for beginners or even pclinux os kde all the way wait a minute what did u say at the end there :)
