Seashore Trolley museum in joint partnership with the Lowell National Park operate a original New Orleans Streetcar 966. Fully staffed and operated by STM Volunteers. The First streetcar that I learned to operate was this particular car on these tracks. What a nice Gem in Lowell, Ma.

Seashore does not run the cars if there is a chance for a thunderstorm so that it does not get stuck on the line. I agree with you about NO not running if that was the reason, but what does NO have that STM does not? Resources! We dont have any extra traction motors to spare if one gets cooked from tacking a strike. Main reason is safety..
I am sorry to hear that you came up to see this Great car and did not get to ride on it in Lowell.

The whistle was added by Seashore, in Lowell the trackage is former Boston and Maine RR, the trackage never got changed to a trolley line so we follow FRA Regs and still need to blow the whistle at grade crossings and place a flagger on the ground

Yeah, a gem indeed........locked away! I made a special trip to New England to see this car, 836 and 850. But 966 was not running on that particular weekend, because I was told there was a chance of thunderstoms...........hmmmm, if they stopped running streetcars in NO for that reason, they would never run! I complained to Seashore Museum but to no avail. That car should be in Kennebunkport, not Lowell.
