@aan3 We are working on it. The first contracts signed, Liberia got 65% and the oil companies 35%. Which is not bad considering the fact that we are new to the industry. Matter of fact, it could had been worst had the US not help us negotiate the deals. However, the oil companies got us a little becuase there has been no discovery of oil in our entire history. But now, the game has changed and we will take 70% in the next deals which will cover our 12 deep ultra blocks. Thats the big ones.
Yes I read about the oil! :) Liberia has all kinds of everything. Everyone wants to find oil and Liberia got lucky. Now the issue is how is the oil wealth going to be use. And when the oil contracts are sign, may the signatories read all the fine print and split the oil shares so the country, Liberian Petrol Company gets like 70% and the companies get 30%. And what about petrol chemicals too? :) Good luck Liberia moving up!
@aan3 Brellor, Liberia just discover oil. Go to google. African Petroleum just anounced a major oil discovery offshore Liberia in BLK-09. The inetresting part is, the discovery is just 1 out of 40+ prospects that they're yet to drill. They said this find could be twice the size of Ghana Jubilee oil field which holds 3.5billion barrels. I'm sorry for those who hate Liberia and thought the 14yrs of civil war was her end. Guest what? She's back and heading for the top. They can't stop LIB..
Yes! I hope the economic booms. Liberia is sitting on top of its own wealth. And don't forget to include in the near future Information technology, machinary, service industry, etc. :) Let Liberia keep moving forward.
@aan3 One of the main reasons why I think Liberia has a unique case to undertake rapid development in spite of her many challenges is because of our natural resources in Iron Ore, Gold, Diamonds, Tin, Oil, Timber, Rubber, plus Tourism, Fisheries, and Agri. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf already told our Western, Asian, and African partners that within a decade or two, Liberia will not need aid but rahter, contribute aid. That is becuase she knows her country's potential. Liberia will fly soon.
@aan3 Yes! we have oil and lots of it too. See, Ghana has 6offshore oil blocks and 2 of which have striked 8 mega oil fields. However, Liberia has close to 40offshore blocks and for a nation that small, thats alot of oil. Documents show that we could hold Africa largest oil and gas reserves. Apart from known companies like US CHEVRON, ANADARKO and China SINOEPEC, we've learnt that supper major EXXON, FRENCH TOTAL, and BRAZIL PETROBARBS have expressed interest and discussions are underway.
