In the Guangxi province of China, fisherman use trained cormorants to help them catch fish from the Li river. A noose tied around the birds' necks to stop them swallowing any fish they may catch. Extraordinary clip from the BBC's Wild China series. Don't be stupid and say that this is cruel. It'd be cruel if they didn't feed them or they just beat them! These birds don't even have leashes. They catch fish AND come back to give it to the people. They don't even fly away. They're fine. They get fed afterwards. If anyone wants to complain about the inhumanity of this, go complain about the NETS people use to catch fish. More than just fish get caught in nets and die because of it. Commercial fishing can be considered cruel to animals.

Actually using these birds is probably better for the environment then intensively fishing them by using nets, also the nets are more likely to catch fish they don't want(ie why trawlers damage the environment). The birds are being rewarded for their work much like say a vegetable picker, no body cries for them. If they birds don't like it they can just fly away, they are perfectly capable of surviving in the wild if they chose to do so, clearly these birds have something to gain by staying.
