I'm just using the usb cable connected to the computer and not using the AC adapter. I imagine it should charge off the AC if the computer is off.

by the way does the original apple dock adapter say for example iphone or ipod fits the Griffin Simplifi ?

ok simple,does the dock adapter that came with your wife's ipod nano fits in to the "hole" of the Griffin Simplifi ?

It will only charge off usb. you could get a usb wall adapter.
