Jimmy Raney's comments at a 1993 Master Class at the Univ of Louisville Jazz Workshop with guitarist, Scott Henderson as "interpreter". This was about 3-4 months prior to his paralyzing stroke. Jimmy died in May 1995. The workshop was run by Jamey Aebersold.
I love this guy's work. Jimmy's phrasing, time and overall concept really blew my mind when I heard him. To me, he's up there with Wes and Hall as one of the great musicians that played guitar! Wish there was more footage of this workshop.

Workshops may lead to a better appreciation of music true. But you either have it or you don't, and if you have it you don't need no dammed workshop on it
It's breath taking how Mr. Raney explains timing by clapping and singing at about 1;30. Very informative! I only got to see him live in duo with his son in the 70ties in Holland but that concert stands out in my memory.
Thanks for sharing this. Great educational materiaal from one of the masters.
