Lenovo product experts Matt Kohut and Stephen Miller took the stage at Accelerate 2011 in Las Vegas to provide a humorous, enlightening look at how Lenovo builds products to withstand the torture of everyday use.

They talked about how Lenovo tests products for drops and then illustrated first-hand what happens to a ThinkPad X1 laptop when dropped from high above the conference floor! The answer? Nothing. The X1 was just fine, as Miller and Kohut demonstrated by playing Angry Birds on the just-dropped machine.

  • Next time throw different laptops from different pc-makers, to see the difference between the brands.

  • @MrJerror and @ztkraptor You're both completely wrong and i'll tell you why. I was at the partner forum, number one. I saw the machine post-drop. There was nothing wrong with the LCD. It's gorilla glass, after all. Number two, if you notice that the ratio of the backdrop screen at the convention is most certainly not standard widescreen, you'll have your explanation as to why you only can see an image on the top third of the LCD. It's so the image will properly fit on the backdrop.

  • Impressive stuff. Lenovo sure make the most durable laptops out there.

    Would love to see Apple try and do this same demonstration with one of their MacBooks.

  • @pin0teres yea well the SL series is kind of a bastard child of the think-pad brand.

  • @pin0teres T or W series are much better built than SL or other Lenovo notebooks. Nowadays Thinkpads are not the same as those manufactured by IBM, however Thinkpad notebook and brand itself is really reliable tool.

  • My t500 was dropped once on my foot from 2 feet, and the entire screen assembly broke..

  • Awesome, but now my 2 yr old "ThinkPad" SL500 has left hinge torn out of the body, cracked screen frame, and interrupting power socket, while It hadn't got dropped even once - it had been used like any other laptop.

    Lenovo shouldn't spoil brand by sticking TP logo to every crappy black & edgy laptop the'll make.

    ~~~
    Typing on HP ProBook 6465b.
    Screw you Lenovo :)
  • @jingxiaojie00 - They have to say that so they don't get sued,
  • Why can't I do it at home??? Because it wont work or something? If YOU can DO it, I should be able to DO it :P
  • I dropped my Thinkpad down the stairs from the first floor at school once. I'm using it to type this comment now. Only a scratch.
  • softest floor in the world
  • Too much marketing, cause here, the floor they used is not solid, its soft like a carpet, not in real condition where the floor is generally rigid.
  • so its a meele weapon too if u are annoyed of someone...
  • Why not play angry birds with the laptop instead of birds?? How cool would that be
  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL Some boy hit his elbow into my Thinkpad at school and i had to get a new screen! Mine isnt very durable! LOLOLOLOL
  • THT NIGGAH ONE FIRST TRY ON DA FUCKIN ANGRY BIRDS
  • Let's see a Macbook Pro do that.
  • This is rediculous... Did you see that angry birds shot!!
  • Thrown on carpet???!!! hardly a tough test !
  • @lianxiang they threw it on carpet.. laptops r built off the PC standard specs.. just the manufacturing of the "case" and selection of "keyboard" and "screen" is what makes them different
  • pretty tough
  • @BenTomSamvideos lol Super Mario can't dress himself.
  • that guy is having 'ballotelli-like' issues with his jacket XD
  • next time throw it from side and not flat, and throw it in a hard surface, and not to a carpet
  • @geffara same here!!
