LON CHANEY, was the MAN..no one lived their roles more than LON CHANEY SR. did..when he died in 1930, HOLLYWOOD stopped and a lot of the country also. what he did was truly unique..it's told while at UNIVERSAL STUDIOS, in the late 20's CHANEY, gave a struggling BORIS KARLOFF, a ride home..the story goes that KARLOFF, asked CHANEY for some "tips"..CHANEY told him to master something no one has done and to master doing it the best..PERFECT..

Lon Chaney has long been my favorite actor. He set the stage for bringing out the passionate side of misunderstood, hideous, deformed and even murderous people. His was a hard act to follow due to the emotion he could project and his ability to contort and artistically transform himself. His career was cut short as he transitioned to the talkies flawlessly. I always thought Johnny Depp has kind of patterned his roles similar to Lon Chaney and see him winning an Oscar someday.

This is by far the most loving tribute I’ve seen…makes me cry every time. Thank you for telling this man’s story. Well done!

@geinman1287: I know, and at only 47. So sad. He left too soon.

can you respond to this. when you put a picture of Lionidas at 4:35 was that really him on his death bed?
thecopykidofthestarz 2 years ago
I'm not sure if it was him on his death bed, exactly. I got the picture from a documentary on his life and during that part when they showed the picture, the narrator and people they interviewed were talking about how sick he had become, so it may have just been a picture of him at least in the hospital and not on his actual death bed, per se.
