I would ask everyone to watch this video, and then forward it on to all the gun owners you know. It's essentially an experiment or poll--albeit a pretty darn unscientific one--to get some idea how many people really believe in the RIGHT of self-defense.

Really? You're from Germany, and you can't understand why the common people would ever need guns?

"The government is afraid of the guns people have because they have to have control of the people at all times. Once you take away the guns, you can do anything to the people. You give them an inch and they take a mile. I believe we are slowly turning into a socialist government. The government is continually growing bigger and more powerful and the people need to prepare to defend themselves against government control." - Timothy McVeigh

And on that, Timothy McVeigh was absolutely right. If he then decided that harming innocent people was okay if it's to serve some greater good, he was totally wrong. Ironically, dang near everyone who works for the federal "government" firmly believes--and never questions--that it is okay to forcibly rob, subjugate, assault and otherwise violently control innocent people in the name of "law" and "authority." Then they condemn anyone OUTSIDE of their gang who does the same thing.

Note that you asked why a "civilian" would need a semi-auto rifle. Tell me, why do state mercenaries ("law enforcers") need them? And whatever "nasties" they need them for, don't those "nasties" exist in my world too (and yours)? The short answer is, the people should be well enough armed to forcibly resist their own "government." That idea bothers most people--except those who know history, who are bothered by the idea of a people INcapable of forcibly resisting their own "government."

Yep - I hate the teachings that have been attributed to Jesus (who is, in all liklihood, a fictional character) because they promote weakness and submission in the face of tyranny: it's not surprising that emporer Constintine chose this religion to unify his empire - the practitioners of this faith would present little or no resistance to his rulership with an iron fist...

"That must be your thing. A gun for a law enforcement officer is a tool of his trade. It is used to protect himself and citizens."

Incorrect - the firearm of "law" enforcement agents is intended to serve the will of the state, not protect the public (and yes, there are actual court rulings that claim that the agent's duty is to make arrests, not protect the common person).

" This is very nearly the best government and society that mankind is capable of."

That's funny - every social order that has ever existed has claimed to be the best one possible...

This post is childish and stereotypical - owning a firearm isn't an attempt to "compensate for something" any more than owning any other tool...

Because words don't have any significant effect on armed thugs (especially ones with badges) and martial arts (for as great as they are for hand-to-hand encounters) is of limited use against enemies with firearms...

What do you feel we don't need protection from? Wouldn't you rather want the ability to use force in self-defense than have to wait for somebody else to show up to help?
