Tibetan spiritual leader HH the Dalai Lama attended the 11th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in the city of Hiroshima, Japan from November 12 to 14. The Nobel Peace Laureates who attended this summit were HH the Dalai Lama and South Africa's Frederik W de Klerk, Mohammed Elbradi, Mairead Maguire, Shrin Ebadi, Jodi Williams and UN representative Johan Cels. On the concluding day of the summit the Nobel laureates visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial and offered followers and prayers. The Nobel Laureates each spoke about their commitment to peace and liberation from nuclear weapons. At the end, American peace activist Nobel laureate Jodi Williams read out the Hiroshima charter of the summit that His Holiness and other laureates had signed. It calls for the elimination of all nuclear weapons and prays for a world without nuclear weapons.

Burmese democracy leader Aung San Suu - Kyi urged the people to stand up for their rights and seek democracy in military-ruled Burma, in a rare and first address after gaining her freedom from house arrest, last Saturday,Nov.13. Thousands of supporters cheered on Aung San Suu Kyi as she spoke at her National League for Democracy party headquarters in Rangoon. She said freedom of speech is the basis of democracy and called on the military rulers to engage in a national reconciliation.

The Dalai Lama joined world leaders and peace campaigners in welcoming the release of pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi by the military rulers of Burma. Aung San Suu Kyi's released was also welcomed by U.S. President Obama and Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard and many others.
