Disclosure - Governor Fife Symington - CNN Phoenix

It's not every day a former governor tells you he witnessed a UFO that he believes came from another world. Ok, that's an understatement. I don't believe a person who has served as a governor has ever uttered such words on camera. But that's what Fife Symington, who served as governor of Arizona for six years in the 1990s, just did. Symington took me to a park in Phoenix where he says he saw what is now referred to as the 'Phoenix Lights.' Exactly 10 years ago, thousands of Arizonans saw an object in the sky described by witnesses as larger than a football field with brilliant lights. It was also videotaped by many. Witnesses say it made no noise. Symington was governor at the time, and not only did he never publicly mention that he saw it, but there are many who feel he ridiculed those who did. The governor held a news conference after the sightings in which he claimed the case had been solved. At that point, a man in an alien costume walked into the room. That 'alien' was his chief of staff. The former governor told me he held the news conference (which in all fairness, many found very amusing) to create some levity in a state where many people might have been getting panicked. Fast forward a decade. The creators of a film about UFOs called 'Out of the Blue' contacted Symington because they are updating their documentary. After being asked questions about the 1997 episode, Symington told the filmmakers that he did indeed see the UFO but said nothing publicly, in part, because he didn't want to scare Arizonans. Symington told me that what he saw in the sky that night was 'otherworldly' and he believes it was an 'alien spacecraft.' He is a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in Vietnam and is highly doubtful it was some secret military craft. Symington said he did privately try to have people investigate the sightings, but got nowhere. But for the first time, he is talking about it publicly, and saying that not only was he not concerned, but he would love to see a sight like this again. What was it? Frankly, I have no idea and wouldn't hazard a guess. But Symington's revelation a decade later only adds to the mystery surrounding this event. The Phoenix Lights were an unbelievable phenomenon that took place in March 13, 1997 and the event was witnessed by thousands of residents. There are photographs and video of the UFO sighting and to this day it is still one of the biggest UFO sightings in history.

Edgar Mitchell, the Apollo 14 astronaut, who holds a doctorate from MIT in aeronautics and astronautics, is convinced ''at a confidence level above 90 percent, that there is reality to all of this.'' He says, ''People have been digging through the files and investigating for years now. The files are quite convincing. The only thing that's lacking is the official stamp.''

The most frequently shown video is the military release of flares several days into the daily sightings to provide an earthly military explanation. The ufos seen earlier that week filled the sky over Phoenix. And remember the craft that flew from northern AZ to Tucson? The skeptic who claimed that the so-called spacecraft "was the result of individuals who were just connecting the dots" showed himself to be a bigger fool than any ufo freak I'ver ever heard.

How do the extraterrestrials get here? An answer may be given by those who are prepared to envisage that the Universe perhaps has not been the result of a big bang, but that it is of higher dimensional origin. The overcoming of spatial distances would then be the result of the to and fro between our space/time continuum and the next superordinate dimension. This would also explain the often observed so-called dematerialization and materialization properties of the foreign vehicles UFOs.

The Ministry of Defence will release a total of 160 files dating back to that time to the National Archives in Kew.

The first files will be made available in Spring 2008 and the process is expected to take three years.

The MoD has received reports of over 10,000 UFO sightings since the UFO project was set up in 1950.

they could be government aircraft of some kind, they will use the flying saucer idea to manipulate societies minds on some level , by now they could have saucer shaped aircraft that are a mixture of ovt jet engines and use of some lighter than air gas like helium or hydrogen to create antigravity effects, then use the ovt jets to move in any direction. Just imagine a much smaller saucer shaped more advanced version of the hindenburg with multidirectonal jets. Could be flown by remote or pilot

The sighting hasn't been solved. The images that you see of the lights are indeed flares that occured around 10:30pm or so, but there was a structured triangular craft witnesses around 8:30pm. For some reason, the media keeps focusing on the lights at 10:30pm and ignores the craft reported at 8:30pm. It's like there is a genuine 'bait and switch' with people demanding that the lights at 10:30pm was all that happened.
