  • @Thesekocan You are correct about the cotton picker but this machine here, depicted in the video as well as the title, is indeed a cotton gin, my friend.

  • cotton picked by machines since 1924, it's called cotton picker.

  • @ZX2ManDave All cotton plantations had cotton gins. The gin separated the cotton fibers from the seeds, but the cotton still needed to be picked by hand. The cotton gin increased the demand for slave labor. If cotton could be processed 10 times or 100 times faster, that means a plantation needed 10 times or 100 times as many slaves.

  • Why should i as a successful plantation owner buy one of these new fangled contraptions when i have plenty of slave hands to do it for me?
