  • I have a question about this. Once whenever you run this, does it remove the OS too?

  • @38darkness42 If you flatten the hard disk with the OS on it, it does.

  • Can DBAN fix my drive that has bad sectors that won't relocate? I tried a zero fill with dd, but it won't get past a certain one:

    root@modmadmike-srv:/home/modmadmike/Scripts# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdb conv=noerror,sync

dd: writing to `/dev/sdb': Input/output error

    12437673+0 records in

    12437672+0 records out

    6368088064 bytes (6.4 GB) copied, 442.061 s, 14.4 MB/s

    root@modmadmike-srv:/home/modmadmike/Scripts#

  • @modmadmike2 No it can't. You absolutely need to get a new hard drive ASAP. Bad sectors are not to be taken lightly.

  • so i cant recover my pc with my recovery disk?!

  • If your Recovery Disk is independent from data on your hard disk, you can.

  • i'm nuking my hdd right now.

  • @Goostavable I'm not sure what you're referring to - is it the recovery question? In that case, yes - if you don't delete your backup, you can restore it.

  • @fuzzykiller I't was just a Bulk store for my downloads and old backups [(1TB array of two 250GB drives and one 500GB) all of which H/W failed within 2 days of each other], My root device is an LVM volume stripped across two 30GB SSD's and then I also have a 1TB disk that I use as my /home directory. So I'm fine for now at least ;)

  • @derwinmicheal no u cant ..unless u got the full version of xp,vista or windows 7
