TTC's new Toronto Rocket subway train set # 14 (5511-5516) undergoing practice runs (while not in revenue service) at St. George station, en route southbound to Union Station, taken on January 22, 2012.
Don't worry, there are several of those new TR trains already in revenue service with a maximum of up to 10 avaliable in-service TR trains so far as of December 2011. The new TR trains are to be delivered to Wilson Subway Yard by truck on a weekly basis, it is expected that by the end of 2013, there would be up to 70 of those new TR trains in revenue service.
The new TR trains operate exclusively on the Yonge--University--Spadina (Y-U-S) line and will gradually replace the system's older H-series (H4, H5, H6) subway cars, most of which had been in revenue service since the 1970s as more new TR trains enter service. As an offset to the cost of the new subway trains, the TTC announced in September 2011 that it would sell the later lines of the H-series (H5 and H6) trains to Eko Rail in Lagos, Nigeria. The oldest lines of the H-series (H4) trains (which operates on the Bloor--Danforth or B-D line) are to be scrapped, while the remaining T-series (T1) trains serving the Y-U-S line are to be shifted onto the B-D and Sheppard lines.
I saw this on Sunday... There were 6 other TR's in Service... Run #'s 102-105 and # 116, and 118. This one is on # 196... If you see a TR with Run # 196 on it then that is a training train

@yyzrocketman I was on one of those new TR trains that day too, since they use an estimated of 3 to 4 of those new trains in service on the weekends, I would not be surprised (at least for the time being) that the majority of the trains you've seen on the Y-U-S line are not the new ones. On the weekdays they have up to 5 or 6 of those new TR trains in service, with the most being 9 or 10 during peak periods.
