I used to weigh myself and then pick up the dog and weigh with them in my arms and I thought that there had to be an easier way. So, I shaped bandit how to weigh himself. Well get on the scale so that I can see how much he weighs. The problem with my scale is that it is glass and slippery, which makes if hard for the dog to learn to stand on it. The other problem is that if Bandit does not get on right away the scale will turn off. So, I need a new scale now that Bandit can get on it with all 4 paws. :)

  • That is really neat. Bandit is so smart. Also, I guess you know this and just put it on the carpet for filming, but...The scales need to be on a hard surface to weigh correctly. If it is on carpet, when the weight shifts slightly, it will effect the scale/weight. I do enjoy your videos. I have just found them! Thank you for all the info, and for sharing. Ann

  • He really is a smarty pants! Yes, it did not work on the carpet and it is really too small. Bandit will stand on it, but he really does not like standing on it. So, I need a bigger scale. :) Thank you so much for watching my videos! You are awesome! I can't wait to check out your channel.

  • aww shes so pretty and this looks like a great thing to teach im getting a belgian sheepdog puppy in a few weeks and i think this would be good to start teaching her early on so i dont have to pick up a

55lb dog anyway great video very informative and beautiful dog!

  • Make sure you get a bigger scale. hehe! My husky mix is 58lbs and she is too big to balance her paws on the small scale I have. Plus, my scale is glass and slippery. So get one that is a little bigger and not slippery and start your puppy right away as he is a puppy and when he is grown, it will be a piece of cake. Thank you for your really nice comment! Good luck!

  • Very CUTE! I have to try this one with Jesse. I hope our scale will pick up 22lbs, if not it is a really cute trick to teach anyway!! =o) 5* to you and Bandit! ~Heather and Jesse~

  • Thank you Heather & Jesse! My scale is so sensitive that if Bandit does not hold totally still, it will not read it. Either way it is just so much fun to shape different behaviors. Have a great day! Pam & Bandit

  • I won't have anything on it until sometime in January, at the earliest. I have to figure out how to load things onto YT. The only video camera I have is on my cell phone!

  • I went and actually tried this with Jess. The closest I could get to was 3 feet on and one off. Too much reinforcing for that position when skateboarding! Ha. Ha!

  • Can't wait to see your video! Have a great day! You are welcome for the idea!

  • Yep! This is next on my list. Thanks for the great idea!
