  • Dear TYT,

Please refrain from interviewing individuals who adhere to pseudo scientific views. Len Saputo is a strong supporter of alternative medicine (advocates diets to reduce toxins, homeopathy, chinese medicine etc).

Anything under the guise of "alternative medicine" is simply pseduo science which has failed to demonstrate efficacy through science, and is therefore not a legitimate form of medicine.

You have an obligation to report objectively to your viewers when it comes to science.

  • I'd be more than happy to be linked to their papers. No doubt that they are of such good scientific methodology, that they were submitted into a reputable scientific journal, right?

Interesting how you don't even mention what kind of alternative medicine was used.

This is not a healthcare issue. Changing our health care will not change the scientific consensus against any form of alternative medicine.

Do you know what they call alternative medicine that works? Medicine.

  • I am all for the approach that includes alternative medicine the Scientific discoveries in the 19th century of Pleomorphism (French microbiologist Antoine Bechamp) Vs Monomorphism; the base of all Modern Medicine since the 19th century ( French microbiologist Louis Pasteur) are again already becoming a very real debate. READ ...the answers are clear as crystal, do some research you will be shocked if you look deep enough. Brilliant Work Dr Saputo..Love it...keep it coming!

  • First of all, I'd like to check out the paper you're talking about. But more importantly, the majority of acupuncture studies come out negative. There are some that come out positive, but these studies are either not double blinded, or have a really small sample size. The bottom line is that there is a strong correlation with negative results for acupuncture, and good scientific methodology from the study conducted.

Besides that, there is absolutely no scientific basis for meridian points.

  • And the big profits ARE the alternative pharma.

Tthey sell mainly water, they sell it VERY EXPENSIVELY, the have NO RESEARCH costs, the don't have to do ANY lengthy and costly tests to prove efficacy and safety and to be FDA approved.

And the most important of all: they are don't have a specific indication. They are used to achieve generally 'wellness'. That means that they don't target just persons with a specific medical issue but all people, incuding the healthy ones(they can get 'well'-e')

  • If it works, show me! That's all evidence base medicine desires.Just show it to me! Don't tell me "just trust me" or "some things transcend the physical reality".

Some herbal extracts do work and evidence based medicine uses them. An example is quinidine, which is an extensively used substance in cardiology. EVIDENCE proved it's effectiveness and it's risks as well. The assumption that natural stuff are safe is a fallacy. And regarding the specific example, quinidine can kill you easily.

  • HezO that might be true if you could disaggregate 'scientific medicine' from the huge profit motive big pharma, insurance, and doctors have to ensure that their version of 'scientific medicine' becomes the main stream. Studies have shown that a practice like acupuncture works...why? because they've tried it on animals with repeated positive results...thus no chance for a placebo effect. Of course 'scientific medicine' doesn't want you to learn about that because they want to get paid.

  • SockPuppet I've personally benefited from chinese medicine, and if u don't it works, look at friggin magic johnson. It's just that americans have this rah rah mentality that everything they do must be the best. seriously would you rather take an herbal cure that works, or some cooked up cocktail of drugs that has been shown to have deleterious side effects?

  • Jesus christ... This guy says so much right, but then epicly fails when he mentions homeopathy etc... Yeah what do we need, more fake "medicine"! Hah, glad i live in Norway :)

  • Yeah, I know. I'm just saying you don't need a doctor who subscribes to quackery in order to tell you that.

  • Well, lifestyle has to be a factor...
