Some people may be suprised by this comparison, but honestly, Frodo Baggins and Mary Mother of Jesus have very similar attitudes and humility when great burdens were placed upon them. Just like Mary, Frodo accepted the role he had to play in the greater story, not necesssarily knowing where it would lead, but trusting that it was for the best. Frodo also had a presense of someone guiding his journey, people to help him when his journey was most difficult, which I felt was Gandalf, Galadriel, and Sam most of all. If I was trying to dig deeper into comparisons, I would say that Sam relates to Joseph, and Gandalf and Galadriel both share the qualites of the angel in the story as well as Mary's relative Elizabeth. I don't want to put too much emphasis on that, but I hope people that know the bibical story will get the connection.
